"Spirit Sees Red"

Bringing Awareness to the MMIW epidemic. The jacket was created by a Chickasaw/Muscogee Creek artist, Danielle Fixico. She is a former student at the College of the Muscogee Nation. Photo taken by Cheryl Najera, Criminal Justice Instructor at the College of the Muscogee Nation. Red signifies MMIW as it is the only color the spirit sees. We continue to fight for our indigenous people who go missing everyday.

Bio: Cheryl Najera a faculty member at the College of the Muscogee Nation. She is the program coordinator and instructor for the Criminal Justice program. Cheryl's previous photo for MMIW Awareness (We See You) won the 2021 Thunder InDigifest Faculty/Staff Photography award in the category of Advocacy. It was also the winner of the People's Choice for Faculty/Staff in the Best Photography category. When not teaching, I am working to bring awareness to the national epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. My students are also working with me to bring awareness to MMIW.
