The session will focus on topics such as animation, virtual reality and interactive media. Discussion will include the panelists’ individual journeys in new media, professional opportunities for those interested in new media, and opportunities new media are creating for Native cultural work.

About the Speakers
Maritza Louis, Visual Development Modeler, Concept Sculptor
Maritza Louis is a member of the Syilx/Secwépemc Nations in the Okanagan/ Shuswap regions of BC, Canada, and is a Visual Development Modeler with over 17 years of experience in Feature Animation, Game, VFX and Cinematics. Maritza’s portfolio of work includes contributions to titles like GTA V, Sausage Party, Spiderman: Homecoming, Ghostbusters, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse, DC League Of Super-Pets and Toto. Maritza is the author of her own narrative and pushes for her own continued learning and for more indigenous representation in animation, while helping those that want to do the same. She supports BIPOC artists in animation through her volunteer work as a mentor for Rise Up Animation. Also an active member of Women In Animation, part of the Collective Bunch Society.

Anthony Deiter, Institute of American Indian Arts
Anthony Deiter is an enrolled member of the Plains Cree/Saulteaux Nation is a contemporary storyteller communicating the story of North America's Aboriginal people through references to his own history. Anthony is perhaps one of the only Native American Professors of 3d Animation and Digital Technology Arts in North America. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Cinematic Arts, Gaming and Virtual environments at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Nathan Fregien, College of Menominee Nation
Nathan Fregien has been teaching professional audio and video editing as an Apple Certified Trainer for over a decade. He has developed custom training curriculums’ for Apple and Adobe products to train students in digital arts, storytelling, and web-based technology solutions. He also teaches business classes and is the Program Chair for the Digital Media Associates of Arts and Science degree at College of Menominee Nation. He has experience in developing solutions from concept to finished product that effectively communicate and achieve company objectives; designing technology-assisted productions that continuously improve processes and customer experience while creating value and improving environmentally responsible decision-making in 21st century business. His passion is for continuous improvement through lifelong learning, technology, research, and education.
